Joy, or not to joy?

How do you choose Joy, when your heart is broken?

Pretending everything is okay can be easier then admitting that you need help. Asking for help can be one of the hardest things to do because you have to let other people in - which means making yourself vulnerable to another person.
However I have learnt recently that being open and honest about what is going on in your life helps others to understand how to come alongside you in your faith journey.
When life becomes too overwhelming, God wants us to be honest with him because, although he already knows how we feel ... he still wants us to tell him.
That's how love and friendship grow.
Jesus is the perfect example of how to love and walk with others in their pain. One example is when his friend Lazarus dies. Mary fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” And when Jesus saw her weeping he was deeply moved and he wept too.
Jesus knows our pain and weeps with us because he loves us so much, that he hurts when we hurt.
But he doesn’t leave us in the hurt, he sends people to help us, both practically and in prayer. He also wants you to know that you do not need to fear because he is with you.
Sometimes being honest with God means getting angry or cross about how much you are hurting and that's okay too. God has promised to never leave you. He is where our help comes from - even when we are angry!
Yes, he could take away the hurt, but sometimes he doesn’t because he wants to show us how much we are loved by him and other people. Keeping our eyes on Jesus when we are in the middle of the pain and the hurting is the only thing we have the strength to do. This is when God carries us and he sends other people to walk with us. Knowing that God has got this even if I don’t, gives me hope even when things seems hopeless.
When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
"Where have you laid him?” he asked. "Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” John 11 v 32-35
